About StainMatrix
StainMatrix is a free stain removal reference covering 38 common stains across 12 fabric types. Every guide is written around the chemistry of the stain and the material, not around a product we want you to buy.
How the guides work
Each treatment is based on the chemistry pairing: what the stain molecule is, what the fibre structure is, and which agent breaks the bond between them. Tannin stains (coffee, wine, tea) respond to cold water and oxygen-based bleach. Protein stains (blood, egg) must never see hot water — heat permanently bonds the amino acids to the fibre. Oily stains require a degreaser or dish soap to emulsify the lipids before rinsing.
Fabric type changes which method is safe: enzyme detergents that lift protein stains from cotton will attack the wool or silk fibre itself. pH-neutral cleansers are required for delicate materials. That pairing logic is what StainMatrix encodes.

Some pages include Amazon Associates links to common cleaning agents (e.g., enzyme detergent, white vinegar). These are marked and are entirely optional — every treatment can be completed with household supplies.
